John had always thought that his life was fairly ordinary. He woke up each morning at 6:30 AM, ate the same breakfast of oatmeal and coffee, and drove to work in his old Toyota Corolla. He worked as an accountant at a mid-sized firm, crunching numbers and balancing budgets for eight hours a day. He went home, ate dinner alone, watched TV for a few hours, and then went to bed at precisely 10:00 PM.
